This little butterfly that has landed on the flowers is not only a denomination of U.S. currency, but it is also my business card. It’s quite fitting because Bunkydoo is a bitcoin startup. Stamping these bills is actually completely legal according to Title 18 section 333 which states: “Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.”
Now I have no intent for these bills to be unfit for recirculation, actually, my sole intent is for these bills to last as long as possible! Thats why I go to the bank and ask for crisp, brand new, 1 dollar bills.
My favorite thing about using these as my business cards is the fact that it forces people to think about me three times. Once when I present them with the bill, tell them my name & mantra, another time when they unfold the bill, and one last time when they present that bill at a cash register. Everything about that crisp dollar bill, from the still fresh paint that you can feel when you run your fingers over that butterfly’s wing, to the smell of fresh money – builds an emotional connection to the giver.
